The sessions
Small House Studio offers typewriter poetry experiences for individuals, friend groups, wedding parties, corporate off-sites, and more. Explore a variety of vintage typewriters and experiment with writing poetry for others. No experience is needed; you do not need to be a writer or a poet to join us. The studio is in Greene County, Virginia, not far from Charlottesville, with the first sessions opening in late 2026.
How it goes
Gather
We gather in the front room with coffee, tea, and other refreshments. We settle into couches and under blankets. We talk about our relationship to poetry, and talk through the process of writing a poem on the spot for someone else.
Type
We move into the back studio and get to know the typewriters. We choose a machine, choose paper, find a partner, and we dive in — each person writes a poem for their partner in real time.
Read
We gather where we started and share how it went. Those who feel brave read out loud, never required but always appreciated. Your poem goes home with you.
